(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka’s Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake says that experts have projected the world’s rubber demand to rise to 17 million tonnes per annum by 2025, and the Rubber Conference should focus on improving the rubber cultivation.
Minister Dissanayake speaking as the chief guest at the World Rubber Summit 2018 opened in Colombo on Monday said the attention of the summit should be focused on providing a higher price for the small rubber producers.
The World Rubber Summit 2018 organized by the International Rubber Study Group in collaboration with the Ministry of Plantation Industries will be held in Colombo on the 7th and 8th of May under the theme “Breaking Barriers towards Sustainable Growth”.
The Minister emphasized that the world’s rubber producers should pay special attention to safeguarding the rubber cultivation which is the main raw material for rubber products.
Minister Dissanayake said that since rubber producers from 32 countries including Asia, Africa, South America and other countries including Sri Lanka are participating in this conference, he expects the summit to make recommendations and suggestions to develop the world’s rubber cultivation and production.
Chairman of the International Rubber Study Group, Aly Toure, Secretary General Salvatore Pinizzo, Executive director of Sri Lanka Board of Investment SPK Wijenayake also expressed their views.
Presentations and Panel Sessions of the two-day conference will provide key insights and valuable takeaways on how an effective and constructive dialogue between producers and consumers could lead the industry growth that will preserve our environment and provide prosperity to all stakeholders in the rubber value chain, according to organizers.
