(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Georgia Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Border Police and the State Security Service of the Department of State Security have arrested eight citizens of Sri Lanka for attempting to illegally cross the Georgia-Turkey border in the Adjara region.
Georgia MIA in a statement said the investigation found that the Sri Lankans were bypassing the border checkpoint trying to cross the Georgia-Turkey border aiming to enter the Republic of Turkey illegally.
The crime committed by the Sri Lankans is punishable from four to five years of imprisonment, the MIA said.
Investigation is in progress under the article 19-344 Part II “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia on attempted crossing of the state border illegally.
