Elephant runs amok during procession injuring 31 people in Sri Lanka

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –An elephant taking part in a Mihindu Poson procession went on a rampage attacking the public on Sunday in Kahawatte injuring 31 people, the police said.

According to the police, when one of the elephants in the procession ran amok attacking the people other elephants in the procession also became agitated creating panic among the people.

The injured include a police officer, who was on duty at the procession, and 19 women.

The injured have been admitted to Ratnapura and Kahawatta hospitals.
