(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Criminal investigations Department (CID) of Sri Lanka Police has arrested the former Navy Lieutenant Commander Prasad Chandana Hettiarachchi, alias ‘Navy Sampath’, who is a suspect of the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in Colombo during 2008-2009, State TV ITN reported.
Fort Magistrate earlier this year issued a red notice to arrest the suspect, who was absconding.
The CID earlier seeking public support to find the suspect said he is believed to be in Sri Lanka and is being harbored by certain parties. The CID warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found to harbor the fugitive.
Former Naval Media Spokesperson Commodore DKP Dassanayake and five others including three naval officers were arrested last year in connection with the abduction of 11 youths including six international school students and five university students in 2008 and 2009. Subsequent to their arrest, the suspects were remanded. They were granted bail on 9th January this year and released pending the case.
