Special train services to Kandy as the first Randoli Perahera parades streets today

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The first Randoli Perahera of the historic Esala Perahera of Temple of the Tooth will parade the streets today (21) and the Sri Lanka Railways will commence special train services to Kandy from today for the visitors to the Perahera.

Accordingly, several special trains are scheduled to commute between Colombo Fort to Kandy from August 21st to 25th.

One train will depart from Colombo Fort at 09.50 a.m. and reach Kandy by 01.15 p.m., and two other special trains are scheduled to commute from Kandy at 11.45 a.m. to Colombo Fort and Nawalapitiya. Two more trains are to depart from Colombo Fort at 07.05 a.m. and Kandy at 07 p.m. on August 26, stated Sri Lanka Railways.

The first Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala festival will parade streets tonight and continue to parade four more nights until the final Perahera parades on the 25th of August.

Diyawadana Nilame (Custodian) Pradeep Nilanga Dela speaking to media yesterday in Kandy said all the necessary facilities are provided to the people coming to the city to see the Perahera.

The Diyawadana Nilame request the public not to haphazardly dispose of the waste material such as plastic water bottles and polythene brought with them.

During the festival, all meat stalls in Kandy will be closed and the fish stalls will be closed from August 24-26.

The Esala Festival will conclude after the Water Cutting Ceremony on August 26th in Getambe.
