(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The grand religious festival of Esala Perahera in Sri Lanka came to a successful end yesterday (26) with the water cutting ceremony and the presentation of the Sannasa to the President Maithripala Sirisena.
According to the traditional customs, Custodian of the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa, Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bandara, along with the Basnayake Nilames of the four Hindu Temples (Dewales), officially presented the ‘Sannasa’, the traditional communication of successful conclusion of the Kandy Esala Perahera, to the Head of State, President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s House in Kandy today.
The President recognized the artists and performers who took part in the Perahara and also presented the elephants with a fruit treat.
The final Randoli Perahera paraded the streets of Kandy last night. A large group of people including President Maithripala Sirisena and Mrs. Jayanthi Sirisena were present to watch the Perahera. The Water Cutting Ceremony took place this morning at Gatambe in Kandy. The Day Procession to conclude the Perahera festival was held this afternoon.
