(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –A discussion was held on the progress of the activities of the Presidential Special Task Force and the special programs conducted under the President’s office at the President’s office yesterday(14).
The Nationals program for drugs prevention, Grama Shakthi People’s Movement, the program to reconstruct 2400 Ellanga irrigation systems, National environmental conservation program, Agriculture Development Program, as well as the progress of “Pibidemu Polnnaruwa” District development program were discussed at this meeting.
The President described the Grama Shakthi People’s Movement is being conducted Island wide as one of the most prominent projects conducted under this government and pointed out the importance of providing a clear knowledge on these projects to the public officials of those areas.
President Sirisena also instructed the officials to increase the funds given for the Grama Shakthi production societies which were established under Grama Nilahdahri divisions in order to lead the rural community for a better economical and production process.
According to project conducted by the Grama Sakthi People’s Movement to make the country self sufficient in liquid milk by 2020 the pilot project conducted to provide the school children with a glass of milk is to be commence in January.
Attention was given to the progress of the National Environmental Conservation Program where a progress review was conducted on the national program of planting trees.
Thus consideration was given for the Agricultural Development Programs conducted Island wide under Local Food Development Program. President Sirisena, who pointed out that the rainy season is best suited in conducting such a program of plantation of trees, instructed to broaden the programs established to distribute the seeds to the farmer community.
The progress of the Ellanga Irrigational system conducted Island wide was also came under discussion. The President discussed with the related parties about renovation of tanks blocked temporarily due to mud where the steps have been taken to remove mud and clean the tanks.
The progress of the progress of the National Sustainable Development 2030 was also discussed and the success of Polonnaruwa District Development Program was considered appreciably during the discussion.
President said that these programs are benefitting the people to provide solutions for the issues of the public identifying their grievances and uplifting their livelihood. He added that it is the responsibility of the officials to conduct these programs effectively.
