(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –A special convention of the Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will be held today at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium in Colombo under the patronage of party leader, President Maithripala Sirisena.
The President is expected to make a special statement at today’s convention.
The decision to hold a special conference was taken at the Central Committee meeting held on November 26 under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at his official residence.
Members of SLFP electoral organizations, Parliamentarians representing the SLFP, electoral organizers and SLFP Committee members at grass roots level have been invited to participate in the Convention.
A party spokesman said that the aim of the special conference is to enlighten the party members on the latest political actions taken by the President removing Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa to the post, the factors influenced the President’s decision, current political situation and the party’s future activities.
