(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Japan welcoming the recent developments in Sri Lanka towards political stability including the appointment of the new cabinet commended all parties for the effort.
“As a long-standing friend, Japan welcomes the recent development toward political stability in Sri Lanka, including the appointment of the new cabinet, through due process in accordance with the law and commends all the parties for their efforts,” the Japanese Embassy said in a statement on Thursday.
“Japan, in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka, commits to further strengthening our “Comprehensive Partnership” in order to achieve peace, stability and prosperity in Sri Lanka and the Indo-Pacific region,” the statement added.
The political crisis set off by the President Maithripala Sirisena nearly two months ago came to an end with the reinstatement of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the formation of a new government led by the United National Front on Thursday.
