(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Cabinet approval has been granted to make traditional indigenous martial art, Angampora a legitimate martial art, Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa said.
According to the historical evidences, the British Governor Sir Robert Brownrig prohibited the practice and teaching of Angampora through a government gazette and this law stands to this day and the practice of Angampora remained technically illegal.
Speaking at a meeting held yesterday at his Ministry, Minister Premadasa said that the restrictions imposed on Angampora have been removed and make it a legitimate martial art.
The Minister pledged to take necessary measures to preserve and promote this valuable martial art form of Sri Lanka.
