President’s, Prime Minister’s expenditure head passed without a vote

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The President’s and Prime Minister’s Expenditure Head under the Budget 2019 was passed in the Parliament without being taken up for a vote.

President’s Expenditure Head was passed unanimously despite a United National party (UNP) backbencher, parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri asked for a division.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella emphasized that a division is not needed and proceeded to pass the President’s Expenditure Head without a vote. However, the Speaker said the relevant protest will be recorded.

All budget Expenditure Heads for the year 2019 were taken up for debate at the parliament yesterday (13) and 22 Expenditure Heads, including the President’s, were approved unanimously without a vote.

The Committee Stage Debate commenced today for a period of nineteen (19) days from March 13th to April 05th and the Third Reading Division will take place on the 05th of April 2019.
