Archbishop meets Muslims in Negombo, appeals to Catholics

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith visited Negombo today and spoke to the communities affected by the violent clashes yesterday.

Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith also visited a mosque and had discussions with Muslim religious leaders in the area.

The Archbishop of Colombo also appealed to the Christians in Negombo to live in peace with the Muslim community.

A clash between two groups in Negombo yesterday turned violent resulting in mobs attacking some Muslims.

The Police later imposed an overnight curfew in the area which was lifted this morning.
