(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –A Police curfew has been re-imposed in the Kuliyapitiya, Bingiriya, Dummalasuriya and Hettipola areas with immediate effect till 4am tomorrow.
The curfew in the area was imposed late last night till 4am today.
However as tensions prevailed in the area the curfew has been re-imposed.
A tense situation arose after some Muslim owned shops had been attacked by a mob earlier last evening.
A large crowd later gathered outside the Kuliyapitiya Police station demanding the release of suspects arrested over the incident.
The Army was deployed to provide protection to the Kuliyapitiya Police station.
The Police have warned that tough action will be taken against anyone disrupting the peace.
