(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The container handling capacity of the Colombo Port has increased by 9.1 percent last month compared to the same period last year.
The Colombo Port has handled a transshipment volume of 482,910 TEUs in April 2019, up from 441,437 TEUs handled in April last year, according to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).
Together with the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) and the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT), cumulative container volume of the Colombo Port has been increased by 5.9 percent.
With the increase marked at SLPA and other terminals compared from January to April 2018, the Colombo Port’s transshipment volumes have increased by 8.6 percent. The container handling of the terminals belonging to the SLPA has increased by 10.5 percent.
The Colombo Port of is ranked the world’s No.01 container growth port among the top 30 container ports for the year 2018 in container handling. According to the Alpha Liner Index, the Colombo Port was at the 22nd place among the container handling ports.
The latest release of the Drewry Port Connectivity Index also ranked the Colombo Port as the 11th best connectivity port in the world for 2018.
