(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka Navy stressed today that the media reports of removing a navy camp from Wilpattu national forest are completely false.
Speaking to the media at the Government Information Department in Colombo today, Navy Spokesman Lieutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara clarified the facts behind the false reports.
Explaining the matter Lieutenant Commander Sooriyabandara said there is no Navy camp in the area of Vijayakulam of Wilpattu
“What’s there was not a camp but a Navy plantation project. The Navy acquired the 26 acres of land belonged to the Forest Conservation Department to be used for a welfare project. However as the project continued with the navy personnel, we were unable to successfully achieve the goals of the project and decided to remove the project from the area and hand the land back to the Forrest Conservation Department.”
“Based on this news, the social media has fabricated a false report to provoke the society,” the Spokesman said.
The Navy Media Spokesman said there are two Navy camps in Mullikulam and Silawathura area in Wilpattu and stressed that any camp will not be removed compromising the national security.
