President observes the construction works of Pandith Amaradewa Asapuwa

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Maithripala Sirisena instructed the officials to complete the construction of the Pandith Amaradewa Music Hermitage by the 31st of August and vest it to the public.

President made these instructions to the relevant officials, while engaging in an observational visit to inquire about the construction of the hermitage.

The constructions of the Asapuwa commenced on 28th of August 2017 according to an appeal made at the funeral of Pandith Amaradewa and a promise made by President Sirisena.

This musical hermitage is being built in a land extent of 120 perches that belongs to the Housing Development Authority near the Ape Gama in Battaramulla at a cost of Rs.200 million. The Asapuwa is comprises of a library, documentation room, conference hall, auditorium and an open air theatre.

Pandith Amaradewa was renowned as the greatest musician of the nation earning the respect and the love of the people of the country and this hermitage will be built memorizing his contribution towards the Sri Lankan musical industry and to conserve his musical work and his traditions of music for the future generation.

Professor Sunil Ariyarathne, Secretary of Ministry of Mass Media Sunil Samaraweera, Wimala Amaradewa, Ranjan Amaradewa and others were present in this event.
