(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Thirty-five migrant workers returned to Sri Lanka from Kuwait yesterday after complaining of unpaid salaries and promised benefits weren’t met by the employers.
The workers returned yesterday morning by a UL 230 aircraft and had complained to the Sri Lankan embassy in Kuwait, of unpaid salaries and lack of benefits according to the service contract signed in Sri Lanka.
The Foreign Employment Minister was informed about this and instructed the Embassy to take necessary measures, four workers arrived on Tuesday and the rest returned yesterday.
The Embassy will inquire into the matter of the migrant workers and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has requested all migrant workers to register with the Bureau for protection when seeking employment go abroad.
