(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that the Ministry of Education receiving cabinet approval to provide tablet computers to the students of Sri Lanka, giving a revolutionary approach to the field of education is a historic achievement.
The Cabinet of Ministers yesterday granted approval to provide free tablet computers for teachers and students in the GCE Advanced Level classes in national schools, Minister Kariyawasam announced.
The Minister made this announcement at a function held at the Education Ministry yesterday to appoint 44 teacher assistants who had completed their degree or teaching training as teachers in national schools.
The Minister said that this was a great achievement in the recent field of education and it was a momentous occasion for the students, teachers, parents and all other stakeholders in the education sector.
Minister Kariyawasam said steps have been taken to provide 100,000 tablet computers to Advanced Level students as well as the teachers in Advanced Level classes in government schools in the first phase of this project and to distribute these computers in the school system soon and provide the relevant training.
