(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education says the Suraksha Insurance scheme implemented for students island wide has provided benefits exceeding Rs. 664 million since its inception.
The insurance scheme consisting of three main areas- Health Insurance, Emergency Coverage and Special Benefits – cover 4.5 million students between the ages of 5-19 in government schools, non-aided or aided private schools, Pirivena schools and international schools.
The number of claims maid for benefits so far has exceeded 14,000, according to the Ministry.
On the advice of the Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, several measures have been taken to increase the benefits under the insurance scheme.
