(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The police have apprehended 7318 drunk drivers totally during the raids conducted since the 5th of July, said the Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara.
During the 24-hour raids conducted from 6.00 am yesterday to 6.00 am today, 174 drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
A special month-long operation was launched by the police island-wide from the July 5 to apprehend drunk drivers.
According to the Police Media Spokesperson the special raids are mostly being carried on Colombo roads and the suburbs.
Police patrols and search missions are currently being carried out while police officers dressed in civilian clothing were also deployed.
