(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Two army soldiers have been arrested in connection with the shooting of two policemen in Akuressa last Friday (September 06).
The suspects are attached to the Panadura Army Camp.
Upon interrogation of the suspects, the police found two T-56 weapons, two magazines and several live ammunition kept hidden by the suspects. It was revealed that the two policemen had been shot with a T-56 rifle.
Upon further interrogation, it was revealed that the T-56 weapons were stolen from the Panadura North Police Station recently.
The two police officers who were on night patrol were shot at near the Thibbotuwawa Junction in Akuressa in the wee hours of last Friday when they pursued a suspicious motorcycle with two riders who did not heed an order to stop.
