Railway trade unions call off strike following talks

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Railway trade unions called off a strike which lasted for several days following talks with the Government.

The unions said that the strike was called off today following talks held with President Maithripala Sirisena.

During the meeting President pointed out it is the duty of the professionals to exercise their labour without hampering the day-to-day life of the general public, the President’s office said.

While informing the trade union activists to call off their strike, the President said that he will intervene to resolve the issues faced by the railway employees.

The President’s office said that Sirisena had emphasized on the importance of resorting to negotiations to find solutions to any matter.
