(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the United National Party (UNP) is a party that has long been engaged in a people’s mission eradicating familyism, casteism and aristocracy.
Speaking at the inaugural campaign rally to ensure the victory of the New Democratic Front presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa today at the Galle Face Green, the Premier said the Ranasinghe Premadasa was the foremost leader in the UNP who came forward to eradicate casteism and aristocracy engrained in the Sri Lankan society.
He said that all the former leaders of the UNP played an important role in rebuilding the country’s economy.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe pointed out that the UNP was the powerful party that introducing the Open Economic System to the country and creating investment promotions with the Mahaweli Development project created new employment opportunities and changed the direction of the country.

The Prime Minister asked why the people in the opposition today are trying to grab political power by attacking the public services initiated during the Ranasinghe Premadasa era such as the establishment of 200 apparel industries strengthening the industrialization of Sri Lanka and people’s services Gam Udawa and Jana Saviya,
The Prime Minister emphasized that the information technology has commenced a new journey today on the foundation laid by the UNP.
Mr. Wickremesinghe said that the present government has implemented plans to build a 10,000 acre giant industrial estate for an industrial revival. He questioned whether the opposition candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa would oppose the program.
He said the opposition candidate should respond to the question whether he is opposed to the government’s plan to double the tourism industry.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Sajith Premadasa has been engaged in a political mission for 18 years to dismantle the “Walawwa-ism” in Hambantota.
He said that the Hambantota “Walawwa-ism”has not produced housing for the poor, Dhamma school education, kindergarten and vocational training programs in the last few decades while Sajith Premadasa was successfully responding to the requests from people and was engaged in a people’s service.
The Premier requested the people to elect Sajith Premadasa, who has challenged the Hambantota ‘Walawwa-ism’ and is working for the poor people, as the country’s President on November 16.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that Sajith Premadasa, who as a politician in the Hambantota district worked for the welfare of the country for 18 years, will be the country’s president from 17 November instead of the opposition candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who was introduced as the ‘Terminator’ by his brother.
