(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – “Over 70 per cent of population in the country are living in rural areas and a special programme will be in place under my directive to uplift the living standards of the rural population,” SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa told an election rally near Kandy yesterday.Addressing an election rally in Ududumbara, Rajapaksa also said he will formulate a relief package to relieve the people’s burden of living costs soon after he comes to power.
“The people are suffering due to a heavy cost-of-living burden. As promised through my election manifesto, a relief package will be introduced to relieve the people’s cost of living on the people,” he said.
He further said that women in Sri Lanka were facing harassment and, that action would be taken to end violence against women.
He said that he has focused on improving the education in rural areas. “I will implement a short term and long term programme to uplift the educational standards of the youth in rural areas,” he said. Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was also present.
