(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – New President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today assured a neutral foreign policy and refused to get involved in the battles between other countries.
The Rajapaksas are known to be close friends with China while the United National Front Government had moved closer to the United States.
Addressing the nation after taking oaths as the seventh President of Sri Lanka, Rajapaksa said that he will exercise his executive powers in the best interest of the nation.
He also said that he will establish a new Government to take his policies forward.
Rajapaksa also said that his Government will not leave room for any corrupt practices to be committed.
While not commenting on the reconciliation process of the former Government, Rajapaksa sought the support of the minorities to rebuild the country.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also said that Sri Lanka will extend its support to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
