(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – A port worker was killed following an accident at the Colombo Harbor Eastern Terminal Monday, the police said.
The port worker was seriously injured when the chains of a crane unloading a cargo ship docked at the Eastern Terminal broke free and hit the worker’s head. The accident happened around 9.30am yesterday (18).
The victim died on admission to Colombo National Hospital, police said.
The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Gurulupotha Wadiye Gedara Priyantha Gunatunga, a resident of Kadawatha, Eldeniya.
An autopsy has been performed and the body has been handed over to the relatives.
The Colombo Port Police are conducting further investigations.
