(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The political leadership while protecting the country from local and foreign threats is committed to fulfilling the people’s aspirations, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a passing out parade of cadet officers held at the Diyatalawa Military Academy on Saturday (21).
He said the government has given priority to strengthening national security thereby ensuring investor’ confidence and the safety of tourists’.
“The April 21 Easter Sunday attacks was the deadliest ever terror attacks in the Asian region,’ the Prime Minister pointed out.
“The country faced a major econimic setback following the attack. However, the government is ready to face this challenge and overcome it,” he added.“The Easter Sunday terror attacks were easily preventable. The attacks occurred as those who were in power had ignored the prior warnings,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that the humilation of war heroes by the previous government caused terrorism to raise its ugly head again.
