(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Ministry of Education says that all school children can obtain uniform vouchers from their schools from today.
The government has allocated Rs.2.9 billion for school uniforms and 4.2 million uniform vouchers have been printed, the Ministry said.
The value of the voucher has been decided according to the grade level of the students. The uniform material will be available in eleven categories between Rs.440 and Rs.1,800.
The Ministry has taken steps to also provide vouchers for shoes for the children at schools in rural areas and schools with less than 100 students. The Ministry said Rs. 958 million has been allocated to distribute 700,000 vouchers to schools identified in rural areas for the provision of shoes.
