(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –A special gazette notification has been issued assigning Sri Lanka’s armed forces the task of maintaining public order in all 25 districts of the country.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued an extraordinary gazette notification tasking all members of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force to maintain public order in the 25 districts of the country and the territorial water adjacent to the coastal districts effective from today (22).
The President has issued this special order in accordance with the powers vested upon the President by Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40).
Accordingly, Armed Forces personnel are deployed for security in administrative districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Jaffna, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Ampara, Trincomalee and Puttalam and the territorial water adjacent to such Districts. In addition, the administrative districts of Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Badulla, Moneragala, Ratnapura and Kegalle are areas specified for the maintenance of public order by the Armed Forces personnel.
