(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) Chairman MP Sunil Handunneththi stated that the SriLankan Airlines will be summoned before the COPE Committee on February 19 to discuss the contemporary issue with regards to the air bus deal.
In addition, the Foreign Employment Bureau is scheduled to be summoned before the COPE Committee on February 18 and Sri Lanka Cricket is scheduled to be summoned on February 20.
The Foreign Employment Bureau and Sri Lanka Cricket will be summoned at the conclusion of the parliamentary session.
The Committee Chair stated that though the officials of Sri Lankan Airlines have submitted a request in writing to provide them with more time to further study the context regarding the matter of concern as they are newly appointed officials, the COPE Committee members had rejected the request asking them to present themselves on February 19.
Since there has been much talk about the Air Bus deal which was previously discussed at the COPE committee, it was thus decided to call for the Sri Lankan Airlines to appear before the COPE Committee in order to discuss the matters relating to the risen concern. He further stated that two reports pertaining to this Air Bus deal have been presented to the parliament by the COPE committee.
