Navy and Air Force also to assist traffic police to ease traffic congestion in Colombo

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The government has decided to deploy Navy and the Air Force in addition to the Army to assist the police to handle traffic as a measure to ease congestion in capital city Colombo and suburban areas, Acting Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said.

Nearly 150 Army police personnel have been deployed to assist the police in directing traffic in most congested entry/exit points in the Greater Colombo area from yesterday (25).

Accordingly, military police personnel have been deployed to handle traffic on main roads in Peliyagoda, Wellawatte, on roads in the vicinity of the Parliament and Nugegoda during peak hours between 6.00 – 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 – 7.00 p.m. on all seven days of the week.
