(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Considering the growing demand for aviation education worldwide, the government has taken steps to establish two international aviation schools at Mattala and Ratmalana International Airports, Minister of Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Prasanna Ranatunga said.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says that the proposal has already been submitted to the Cabinet.
According to the Minister, Ratmalana Airport has the largest aircraft parking facilities required to set up the two agencies. The Ministry of Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation says the Mattala Airport is in the possession of the land needed for the development of infrastructure.
The Minister said that already Alpha Aviation School of UAE has expressed interest in setting up the first school. In addition two other foreign companies and a local school have expressed interest to start and aviation school in Sri Lanka.
The two new training institutes are expected to attract foreign students from countries such as the UAE, Thailand and Myanmar. This will enable the introduction of a knowledge exchange between the Sri Lankan aviation industry and the market in line with international standards.
