Curfew in Puttalam area lifted temporarily for nomination process

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Police curfew imposed in Puttalam, Chilaw and Negombo police areas was temporarily lifted at 8 am today. The police headquarters said the curfew will be re-imposed from 2 pm onwards until further notice.

The decision has been taken so that the nomination process for the upcoming parliamentary elections can be proceeded without interruptions. Nominations process will end by 12 noon today.

Accordingly, the curfew will be lifted in the Mandalama, Kalpitiya, Wanathavilluwa, Anamaduwa, Puttalam, Saliyawewa, Pallama, Nawagattegama, Karuwalagaswewa, Norochcholai and Udappuwa areas in the Puttalam Police Division, Wennappuwa, Koswatta, Marawila, Chilaw, Madampe, Arachchikattuwa, Dankotuwa, in Chilaw Police Division and Kochchikade in Negombo Police Division.

Police informed that public should remain in their homes during the curfew and they are advised to limit their travels to the maximum when the curfew is lifted.

Only public transport and essential services are permitted to pass through the curfew imposed areas during the curfew. Passengers traveling to the Katunayake airport can use the air ticket as a permit to travel during the curfew.
