(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Private hospitals will be allowed to conduct the coronavirus test under strict conditions, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.
During a media briefing held at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19, Dr. Jasinghe said it had been decided to allow private hospitals to conduct the test for COVID-19 at a maximum cost of Rs. 6000.
According to the Director General of Health Services, the test can be performed only on patients admitted to the private hospitals and only on n patients showing symptoms listed by the Ministry of Health.
Details of patients to be tested and results should be forwarded to the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health.
The tests should only be carried out by a specialist virologist and the reports of the tests have to be issued within 24 hours.
He said private hospitals could utilize government laboratories to conduct these tests at a cost of Rs. 6000.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that covid-19 tests will be suspended in private hospitals that fail to comply with the above mentioned guidelines.
