People in re-opened villages requested to further practice social distancing

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) and Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva requested the people in the re-opened villages to further practice social distancing and not to travel to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The Army Commander said information has been received that there is a situation that people in the villages re-opened Sunday are traveling to other villages. He requested the people not to resort to such activities and comply with the instructions given by the health authorities further practicing social distancing.

Steps were taken to reopen Pannila, Beruwala in the Kalutara district, China Kotuwa area and Akurana in Kandy district which had been locked down due to the coronavirus clusters.

The Akurana area had been isolated for 37 days and the village in Beruwala has been restricted from April 14 due to the spread of the Coronavirus.
