Rs.5,000 grant for those who lost livelihoods

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Government has decided to provide an allowance of Rs. 5,000 each to individuals who have lost their daily income from next week.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19. Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said a total of Rs 3,398 million has been allocated for the month of May for 7,76,635 persons with disabilities and the elderly as well as several thousands of patients with chronic kidney disease. She further stated that the Samurdhi Development Officers have been instructed by officials to distribute this concession to 100 families at a time in order to prevent congestion. Furthermore, the Government has allocated more than Rs. 25,000 million for the development of the economy.

The Government has spent over Rs. 5 billion to pay allowances to kidney patients, the disabled, the elderly and the Samurdhi beneficiaries for April and May.
