(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Three persons including a couple and a pedestrian were killed and three others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident yesterday (27) in the Karamada area in Gelioya, Peradeniya.
According to the police, the accident involving a motorcycle and a three-wheeler took place at around 6.50 pm when a motorcycle traveling towards Gelioya on the Peradeniya-Gampola road hit a pedestrian crossing the road.
At the same time a three-wheeler traveling towards the same direction had run over the collapsed pedestrian and collided head-on with a car came from the opposite direction and rolled over.
Two women passengers and the driver of the three-wheeler who was seriously injured have been admitted to the Gampola Hospital, while the pedestrian and a male passenger of the three-wheeler have been admitted to the Kandy Hospital and the motorcyclist has been admitted to the Peradeniya Hospital.
One of the women, the male passenger of the three wheeler and the pedestrian have succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at respective hospitals.
The deceased man and the woman were a couple of 54 and 53 years of age living in Rekawalpola village, Velamboda area. The deceased pedestrian was identified as a 54 year old resident of Gelioya.
Peradeniya Police are conducting further investigations.
