TNA still working for secession -PM

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said the Tamil National Alliance was trying to achieve what the LTTE failed to gain by firepower.

He said that the government will not give into TNA demands to divide this country on ethnic lines and there will be no room for a separate State in Sri Lanka under his government. The Prime Minister was addressing an election meeting held at Narammala Community Development Foundation yesterday in support of Kurunegala district SLPP candidate Shantha Bandara.

“Our government succeeded in eradicating the terrorism which plagued the country for more than 30 years and created environment in the country in which people of all communities can live in peace and harmony,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that certain people have forgotten the era marred by violence and terror. He noted that more than 60,000 people died in the resurgence in 1980s and more than 4000 youths in the Kurunegala district lost lives during this time. “We should take every possible effort to thwart another uprising in the country again.
