(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) appointed Dr.Jayantha Dharmadasa to fill the vacant space of K.Mathivanan as the successor for the post of Vice President from immediate effect, after Mathivanan tendered his resignation by a letter addressed to Mohan de Silva, Secretary, SLC yesterday.
Mathivan tendered his resignation by a formal letter copied to President, SLC, Secretary, Sports Ministry and Director General of sport without citing any reasons. But later he put out a media release citing various reasons for his resignation, which the SLC officials denied and stated that it was a ‘Baseless allegation’ leveled at them and is fabricated to infuse disrepute to SLC.
The SLC official further said that, at the last executive meeting held last Monday, a unanimous decision was taken to hold an inquiry against Mathivanan, who they say had breached the SLC code of conduct on various occasions, specially by divulging all inside information and decisions made at these meetings, to various outside sources, without prior approval, which they have alerted to him on several occasions. Mathivanan became the only candidate to register an empathetic victory at the 2019 SLC elections contesting under Jayantha Dharmadasa’s camp. From the time of his appointment, he was mostly in disagreement with the Exco decisions.
Jayantha Dharmadasa, a top business tycoon in the country has served the SLC on several occasions under various capacities. He has immense experience with the SLC administration.
He was appointed as the Chairman Interim Committee on two occasions and as a Vice President and later as President. He also has served as the board member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and later became the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He held the Presidency of Galle Cricket Club and Saracens Cricket Club locally. At present, he is a board member of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and Chairman of Sri Lanka Film Corporation.
