(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Modara Police have arrested three persons in the Thotalanga area while they were transporting a stock of drugs worth over Rs. 4.7 million in a lorry Tuesday.
Police have seized 18,900 drug pills along with the suspects. Police say the seized drug pills should only be obtained on a doctor’s prescription and the drug addicts use the pills to get high.
Police have revealed that the suspects were part of an organized gang that was involved in a large scale drug dealing targeting school children.
During the interrogation of the main suspect, the police were able to uncover many details of this racket.
Meanwhile, officers of Kalutara South Police during a raid conducted Monday in a restaurant in the Waskaduwa area of Kalutara North Police Division have arrested five suspects and seized a variety of drugs.
During the raid the police have seized, 14 grams and 200 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (ice), 22 grams of Kerala Cannabis, 27 narcotic pills, about 5 feet tall cannabis plant, paraphernalia use for snorting drugs, a three wheeler and Rs. 64,000 in cash.
The arrested suspects aged 20, 27, 30 and 37 years are residents of Waskaduwa area.
The suspects are to be produced before Kalutara Magistrate’s Court today (08). Kalutara South Police are conducting further investigations.
