(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing Sirinimal Perera stated that the Urban Development Authority (UDA) has decided to develop the town of Warakapola, which has so far been developed in name only without any development plan, in accordance with an approved and systematic state development plan.
Accordingly, the “Proposed Warakapola Bus Stand Development Project” is scheduled to commence from next March.
The Warakapola Urban Development Process, which is being implemented on the instructions of the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister of Urban Development and Housing, consists of two phases.
With the completion of the first phase of the Warakapola bus stand and its opening to the public, the second phase of the proposed financial and commercial development project in Warakapola will be implemented.
The 28.28 sq km Warakapola Urban Area which has been gazetted so far has also been included in the development project as a proposal for further development.
The Wariyagoda area in the Opatha Grama Niladhari Division in Warakapola is included in the project as a proposal to develop the area under the Small Towns Development Project due to its proximity to the Warakapola Municipal Area and the main roads.
The second phase of Warakapola town development will begin in December, the Urban Development Authority said. A land of 4.02 acres has been allocated for the proposed financial and commercial development project.
