(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Secretary of Education Prof. Kapila Perera says the principals have requested him to reopen schools for Grade 12 students in the Western Province as well. The Secretary said that he would forward the request to the Ministry of Health.

The Education Secretary said it is appropriate to conduct education under the distance education system according to the school schedule for students in grades that have not been opened in the Western Province at present. He said he is of the view that teachers of those grades should also come to schools for that purpose.
All schools in the Western Province for grades 5, 11 and 13 and all other provinces were reopened from yesterday.
Accordingly, 73% of students and 86% of teachers had attended school yesterday, the Ministry of Education said.
The Ministry of Education further stated that the attendance of students in the Western Province was 79% and the attendance of teachers was 78%.
