Operating with a process excellence vision of “becoming the number one Lean Hospital in South Asia”, this momentous milestone makes Hemas Hospitals the only organization, to have won the highest number of awards won by single company, the highest number of awards won by aService organization in the history of NCQP Awards, and the highest number of Gold awards won by any company under the elite award category of “Best Lean Six Sigma Projects” in the history of NCQP Awards. The Gold Award winning teams of Hemas Hospitals and Laboratories are now qualified to compete at the next International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) to be held later this year in Hyderabad, India.

Hemas Hospitals’ latest triumph adds to the series of eminent awards it has secured during its tenure. It is currently the only hospital to have secured the COVID-19 safety certification from the Sri Lanka Standards Institute, as well as the first to receive the Australian Council on Healthcare Standard International (ACHSI) accreditation for exceptional patient safety and superior clinical outcomes. Hemas Hospitals is also the first IMS certified organization in the country for ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System standard, ISO 14001: 2015 Environment Management System standard and the ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standard.On its mission to mitigate the great impact of the pandemic on patients, the hospital drew public praise when it designed and launched the world’s first infectious disease transport chamber to fight COVID-19.
In addition to the 50 awards won at the NCQP awards 2020 last week, during the recent past, the leading hospital chain has walked home with a total of 18 top national and international accolades and in the process earned itself the title of the most feted hospital in Sri Lanka. These accolades include three Healthcare Asia Awards and one Hospital Management Asia Award in the international arena, making it the only hospital group to claim a major international award in 2020, bringing international recognition to the Sri Lankan healthcare industry.
The National Convention on Quality and Productivity Awards is an annual event held by the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity (SLAAQP)to felicitate professionals in quality and productivity in the manufacturing and service sectors. By encouraging employee’s participation and leadership, teams compete under the categories of Best Quality Circle projects, Best Continuous improvement projects, Best Lean Six Sigma Projects. This year’s event was under the theme of ‘National Prosperity through World Class Quality and Productivity”.
