(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga stated in Parliament Yesterday (7) that the Mattala International Airport has earned an income of Rs. 445 million (Rs. 445,319,636) from the opening of the Mattala International Airport to November 20 last year.
The Minister said that since the opening of the airport, 10,266 aircraft have arrived. From the date of opening of the airport to November 2020, 58,651 passengers arrived and 73,513 passengers departed.
He was responding to a question raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya Ratnapura District MP Hesha Vithanage seeking an oral answer.
The Minister said that the construction of the airport has cost US$ 247.7 million.
The Minister also pointed out that the activities of the airport were disrupted due to the storage of paddy at the airport during the last government period.
