There is no shortage of oxygen in Sri Lanka – Director General of Health Services

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena says that there is no shortage of oxygen for Covid patients.

He also said that reports that Covid patients were suffering from lack of oxygen and that their lives were in danger were untrue.

“At present there is no shortage of oxygen supply from the medical oxygen factories in our country and they have stated that they are capable of supplying more oxygen than the current supply,” he assured.

He added that more jumbo cylinders (large cylinders) will be provided to Covid treatment hospitals and teaching hospitals obtaining more oxygen as needed.

There is no shortage of oxygen at Kalubowila Colombo South Teaching Hospital and Mulleriyawa Hospital at present, said the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena.

The doctors’ union, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), yesterday urged the government to take immediate action to replenish oxygen stocks to avoid a serious situation similar to that in India.
