Restrictions will be imposed on travel between provinces if COVID-19 cases increase, DGHS warns

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, warns that travel restrictions will have to be imposed between provinces if more COVID-19 infected patients are reported.

Many Grama Niladhari Divisions and Police Areas have been isolated due to the high number of reported cases in several parts of the country.

Also, problems have arisen when providing services to the public as health officials, divisional secretaries, members of the security forces including police officers, Grama Niladharis and many others have been affected by the corona infection.

Upul Rohana, President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Association, says that due to the irresponsible actions of the public, a situation has arisen where the country’s health sector will lose control of health in the future.

He also points out that the number of reported cases of infections is increasing on a daily basis due to people still not following proper health advice. He said that if this situation continues, the health sector will lose control due to exceeding the existing capacity and limited resources in the country’s hospital system.

Upul Rohana points out that the number of reported cases of infections in the country has increased sharply by about 70 percent since the 27th of April.
