(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Travel restrictions will be imposed Island wide from 11.00 pm tonight and will be lifted at 4.00 am on Tuesday, May 25, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.
Travel restrictions will be lifted for 19 hours and will be imposed again at 11.00 pm on Tuesday covering the entire island. It will be removed at 4.00 am on May 28th Friday.
Only employees leaving for essential duties can leave their homes during that time. During this period, employees going on duty for essential services can travel with the letter of permission and duty identity card obtained from the head of their institution. Transportation of essential good is also allowed during this period.
During this period, patients can be hospitalized for medical treatment, and the ID system does not apply during this period.
The public will not be able to leave homes during that period according to the last digit of their national identity card. State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama said that a limited number of trains and buses will run in compliance with the traffic rules during the period when the travel restrictions are in effect.
Meanwhile all economic centers will be closed from today to 24th Monday. On 25th at 4.00 am all economic centers and Peliyagoda manning market are scheduled to be opened. Thereafter all economic centers will be closed from 26th Wednesday to 28th Friday.
The main office and regional offices of the department of immigration and emigration will be closed from today until further notice
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that police operations have been launched to arrest persons violating the quarantine rules during the period of restricted travel.
