(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The government has decided to import 5 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine by the end of this year.
State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said under the first phase of the importation of the stock of Pfizer vaccines, 300,000 doses of the vaccine are due to be delivered to Sri Lanka during the month of July.
There are currently three types of Covid vaccines in use in the country, including Oxford-AstraZeneca Covishield, Russia’s Sputnik V, and Chinese Sinopharm vaccines.
The first dose of Covid vaccine was given to 1,766,636 Sri Lankans while the second dose was given to 351,017 Sri Lankans, according to the Epidemiology Unit.
