(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Extending its support towards bridging the digital divide, SLT-MOBITEL, the National ICT, Telecommunications and Mobile Services Provider, facilitated the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka’s (TRCSL) ‘Gamata Sanniwedanaya’ Project by commissioning the first 4G tower in Panana, Weligepola on Monday, July 5, 2021.
Oshada Senanayake, Director General – TRCSL, Lalith Seneviratne, Group CEO – SLT-MOBITEL, Chandika Vitharana, Acting CEO – Mobitel (Pvt.) Ltd., members of the senior management from SLT-MOBITEL and government officials and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
This is the first 4G tower commissioned under the Gamata Sanniwedayana Project and it will further improve connectivity for the Sabaragamuba Province. A line up of other locations are being developed under the same initiative as SLT-MOBITEL continue with the planning efforts for the other districts under the same scheme with TRCSL leadership. Facilitating the infrastructure needs of both private and public sectors, SLT-MOBITEL’s partnership with TRCSL’s will bring to life the core vision of providing 100 percent 4G LTE connectivity to the nation by facilitating infrastructure requirements to address the digital connectivity challenges faced by rural communities. SLT-MOBITEL’s support to the project also drives forward the nation’s efforts towards a digital transformation.
