Primary sections of all island wide schools start today after 6 months

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – After a period of 06 months, the academic activities of the primary sections of all schools in the island will commence from today. The Ministry of Education stated that the academic activities will be carried out strictly adhering to the health guidelines.

Educational activities in schools with less than 200 students commenced on the 21st and all schools with more than 200 students in grades 1 to 5 are scheduled to commence education today.

Simultaneously, the primary sections of government approved private schools will also commence from today.

The Ministry of Education yesterday instructed the students of the primary sections of the schools it’s not necessary to come to the school in uniforms but they can come in some proper attire without any hindrance.

The Education Ministry has asked the parents to refrain from sending their children to school if they have symptoms such as fever and cough. Prof. Kapila Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Education said that parents should send their children to schools following the given health practices.

Meanwhile, the principals of the teachers ‘and principals’ unions who went on strike have also decided to report to work in the relevant schools from today. However, the trade unions stated that the teachers and principals who come to work today will engage only in teaching duties and will not contribute to any external activities.

The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that a series of protests have been organized throughout the country this afternoon to win their demands.
